O’CONNOR UTILITIES PICKS RENAULT RANGE C TO EXPAND ITS FLEET
"We took some Renault Kerax in 2012 and were really impressed with them. In particular they felt more rugged than the other trucks. We have been really happy with these vehicles, which is why we were very keen to bring the new Range Cs on board."
Manchester based O’Connor Utilities Ltd, a leading service provider to the utilities industry, has taken delivery of its first Euro 6 Renault Range Cs. Seventeen new trucks are being supplied in total by Renault Trucks approved dealer JDS Trucks. They are a mixture of replacements and additions to the company’s 400 plus vehicle fleet, which includes circa 100 HGVs of which 30% and increasing are Renaults.
The new Renault Truck vehicles include 12 Range C 32t 8x4 tipper grabs with ABBA bodies and Palfinger Epsilon M125LC82 cranes; 3 Range C 26t 6x2s and 2 Range C 18t 4x2s, all with Proteus designed tipper hotboxes built by Lancashire Tippers.
Reliability, engineering, price, cab size, payload and unladen weight, as well as previously favourable experiences with Renault Trucks were the key factors in O’Connor Utilities vehicle selection.
The new Range Cs will be used for utilities work across the UK for customers such as Northern Power Grid, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Electric, Western Power Distribution, Electricity North West, Welsh Water, United Utilities, Wessex Water, Anglia Water, SSE Telecom, Level 3, Zayo, Gamma, Colt Telecom, Kingston Communications, Vitesse and Hibernia Atlantic. They will be used for distributing aggregates, pipes, cable, fittings and recycling.
Commenting on the decision to bring the company’s first Euro 6 Renault trucks into its fleet, Stephen Jackson, Head of Plant and Transport, O’Connor Utilities, said: “We took some Renault Kerax in 2012 and were really impressed with them. In particular they felt more rugged than the other trucks. We have been really happy with these vehicles, which is why we were very keen to bring the new Range Cs on board.”
Stephen continued: “We’ve taken delivery of the first batch of vehicles and the drivers are really happy. They especially like the new parking brake and are particularly impressed by the new cab and its interior.”
Richard Davies, JDS Trucks said: “I’m delighted that O’Connor Utilities has chosen to extend their busy fleet with the new Range C. Renault Trucks has invested significantly in the new Euro 6 vehicles to provide an excellent payload.”
Richard continued: “Renault Trucks has also increased the cab volume and introduced multiple storage spaces as well as more considered finishing touches such as the interior trim designs; it’s great to hear that the drivers are already noticing the difference.”
