The Renault Trucks Sherpa, Team Mammoet wins Dakar stage 2

Victorious of the 2nd stage of the Dakar, the Renault Trucks Sherpa, of the Team Mammoet and prepared by MKR has made a sensational debut at the Dakar 2017.

Engaged on the Dakar, the “hardest rally-raid in the world”, alongside MKR with the Dutch teams Mammoet and Riwald, Renault Trucks is proud to see its customers at the forefront. The Renault Trucks Sherpa, driven by Martin Van den Brink, won the second stage in Argentina. 812 kilometers long, included 284 of selected section, it was marked by very rolling tracks whose main difficulty for the pilots was to manage the dust raised by the competitors that preceded them. Martin Van der Brink masterfully came out being the fastest with more than two minutes ahead of the second.

With this victory, the Dutch driver made double shot by taking the lead of the overall standings. It thus places itself at the forefront and proves to its competitors that on this Dakar 2017, it will be necessary to count with him! “Yes, the first two stages turned out great for us, but it’s still a beginning. After all the experience we’ve head we must contain the excitement a little, there are still many rough kilometres before the finish and a huge portion of luck will be crucial,” says Mario Kress, MKR Technology’s chief constructor, with both feet on the ground.

The other Renault Trucks vehicles have had various fortunes. The Renault Trucks K520 of Team Mammoet (14th) remains in contact with only 8 minutes of his teammate, while Pascal de Barr, on the K520 of Team Riwald was victim, because of the dust, of an accident with a stopped car on the track. The crew was safe but the truck was badly damaged and the mechanics are still busy restoring it so that it can start the 3rd stage.
