Following a robust performance over the last twelve months in a buoyant commercial vehicle market, Renault Trucks looks forward to building on strong volume gains and continuing to grow customer confidence in the brand in 2016.

The reports of a 27.1% rise in truck registrations above 6 tonne GVW last year, compared to 2014, is encouraging for the commercial vehicle industry and for Renault Trucks, which saw Euro 6 market share up from 3.3% to 5.6% in 2015. “We are expecting further market share improvements with the launch of our new, lighter 7.5 tonne product later this year,” said Nigel Butler, Commercial Director, Renault Trucks. “It has been good to see our volumes increasing at twice the rate of the market in trucks and five times the rate in an LCV market which saw van registrations up 15.6% year on year in 2015.”

“Looking to the year ahead, we expect some slight softening of heavy truck registrations but this may be offset by further recovery in the medium duty sector,” commented Nigel Butler. “We see LCV continuing to grow but at a reduced pace, possibly affected by the change to Euro-6 which will no doubt add some unusual seasonality to registrations this year with the September switch over.”

2015 was an important year for Renault Trucks in growing its reputation as the customer’s cost champion through the robust, economic range and by working in partnership with operators to deliver real value throughout every vehicle’s service life.  More customers than ever are choosing to finance their new vehicles through Renault Trucks.  Just over 3 in every 5 of our vehicles are now funded by either Renault Trucks Financial Services or Renault Trucks’ in-house contract hire provider, BRS.

“Customer confidence in the Renault Trucks brand has grown significantly this year,” continued Nigel Butler.  We know that drivers love the Range T for its driving comfort and specification levels, while operators appreciate its excellent fuel economy and reliable performance, but official recognition of this, with the International Truck of the Year 2015 title and more recently winning the Commercial Motor Cab Test, has certainly strengthened our reputation in the market. Owners love what we are doing to help their drivers’ competency and in saving fuel.  Some 40% of new registrations have taken up our Optifleet telematics offer, which we made non-contributory in October.”

A strong dealer network is at the heart of Renault Trucks’ increased success and 2015 saw the network widen its reach, with dealer investments that include Sparks Commercials opening its latest full service facility in Swindon, a £1.5m investment site opened by Thompson Commercials off the A1 near Boroughbridge and WTL opening a purpose-built site at Duxford, near Cambridge.

In addition Renault opened two new ATF lanes in Newcastle and Duxford last year, with three others coming on stream early this year in Tipton, Dunstable and Alfreton.

Another significant development is the increase in Renault Trucks registrations supplied with a full Repair & Maintenance contract, up 59% year on year.
