Award-winning catering butchers and fine food supplier MC Kelly has taken delivery of two new Renault Trucks Master vans, supplied by Sparks Commercials, to support its daily multi-drop deliveries across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

Based at Elston Farm in Copplestone, mid-Devon, MC Kelly supplies restaurant-quality meat and fine foods to independent pubs, restaurants, hotels, farm shops, butchers, schools and universities.

The two 3.5-tonne medium wheelbase Master Red Edition vans – the higher-trim variant of the latest generation Renault Trucks Master – join MC Kelly’s existing fleet. Supplied by Sparks Commercials, the Red Edition models offer enhanced comfort and specification, ideal for the company’s demanding delivery routes.

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to reliability and service, MC Kelly is undergoing a fleet renewal programme that began last year with a switch to Renault Trucks’ vans.

“Our delivery vehicles are the backbone of our operation,” explained Managing Director Fred Morris. “We’re sending out time-critical, perishable goods six days a week over long distances—Devon, Cornwall and Somerset—so reliability is non-negotiable. With our older vans frequently out of action, we knew we had to change. Since switching to Renault Trucks with Sparks, we haven’t looked back.”

The two latest additions join the two Renault Trucks Masters already on the road with MC Kelly. The vehicles are refrigerated and used for multi-drop deliveries, averaging 200 miles per day and covering up to 50,000 miles a year. MC Kelly's challenging routes include the South Hams run over Dartmoor to Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, plus the Plymouth route via Tavistock.

"Some of those Cornwall roads are the last place you want to break down," Fred noted. "We deliver to wedding venues who order Saturday morning for Saturday events - there's no 'get it the day before just in case' mentality anymore. Chefs don't over-order or carry much stock, so what they order for today, they're cooking today. Reliability and quality are critical for our business."

All four Renault Trucks Master vans have been fitted with high-performance fridge conversions by Dorset-based Icecraft, ensuring that produce arrives in perfect condition. “Elliot at Sparks recommended Icecraft, and they’ve done a superb job,” said Fred. “The whole process—from order to delivery—has been smooth, honest and efficient, and the service from Sparks has been first-class.”

MC Kelly also values Sparks’ responsive aftersales support. In the rare event of an issue, the team has worked quickly with partners to resolve it, minimising downtime. “We’ve seen the difference in our operations already,” said Fred.

“Before, we experienced roughly one breakdown a week. Now, our vehicle downtime is virtually non-existent and our deliveries are on time, every time.”

Driver feedback has been equally positive. "Our drivers are very happy with the Renault Trucks Masters and like them a lot," Fred added. "They’re dependable, comfortable, and getting the job done without hassle, which keeps our drivers—and our customers—happy.”

The Masters feature Renault Trucks’ "Stop & Start" engine system for improved fuel efficiency during frequent delivery stops. Each van is equipped with a multimedia radio system, driver comfort features include adjustable seating with armrests, and LED cargo area lighting. The vehicles are delivered ready-to-go following conversion by Ice Craft and final checks by Sparks. Fred plans to continue purchasing two Renault Trucks Masters annually, gradually refreshing the fleet to achieve an optimal 13-van operation.

Elliot Tratt, Transport Solution Executive at Sparks Commercials, said: "It's been a pleasure working with MC Kelly. Fred's business depends on absolute reliability for fresh food deliveries across some challenging rural routes, and the Master 4 has proven perfect for their demanding multi-drop operation. We're delighted they're planning to continue expanding their Renault Trucks fleet and look forward to supporting them with their fleet renewal programme."
